halteridium Zool.|hæltəˈrɪdɪəm| Pl. -ia. [mod.L. (A Labbé 1894, in Archives de Zoologie expérimentale et générale, 3e série, II. 129), f. Gr. ἁλτήρ weight used in leaping.] A name for the gametocytes of the protozoan genus Hæmoproteus, which is parasitic in birds, used when the gametocytes were erroneously considered to be a separate genus.
