gymnocarpous, a. Bot.|dʒɪmnəˈkɑːpəs| [f. Gr. γυµνόκαρπ-ος (f. γυµνό-ς naked, bare + καρπός fruit) + -ous.] Having a naked fruit; applied to those lichens in which the apothecia are open or expanded, or to a fructification of this character.
