Gulf Stream, Gulf-Stream Geog.
A great oceanic current of warm water, that issues from the Gulf of Mexico and runs parallel to the American coast as far as Newfoundland, and thence in the direction of Europe. The name is sometimes given to a similar current in the Pacific, along the shore of Japan.
