Gräfenberg, n.|ˈgrɛːfənbɛəg| [The name of Ernst Gräfenberg (1881–1957), German-born U.S. gynaecologist.] Gräfenberg ring now Hist., an intrauterine contraceptive device consisting of a flexible ring of silver wire, described by Gräfenberg in 1929 (in K. Bendix Geburtenregelung: Vorträge u. Verhandlungen des Ärztekurses vom 28-30 Dezember 1928, 50). Gräfenberg spot, a sensitive area of the anterior wall of the vagina believed by some to be highly erogenous and capable of ejaculation (first described by Gräfenberg & Dickinson 1944, in Western Jrnl. Surg. LII. 338); abbrev. G-spot.
