‖ Gruyère (gruːˈjɛə(r); Fr. gryjɛr) [The name of a town in Switzerland, used attrib. in ‘Gruyère cheese’, also with omission of ‘cheese’.] A cheese made of cows' milk, of firm consistence, containing numerous cavities.
