▪ I. ˈgrummel Obs. exc. dial. Also (pl.) 6 grommelles, 7 grumbles. [Cf. Sw. grummel in same sense.] Mud, dregs, sediment. lit. and fig. (In the Peak of Derbyshire still used, as is the Sw. word, for ‘coffee-grounds’.)
