ˌunder-differentiˈation Linguistics. [under-1 10 b.] The incomplete differentiation of phonemic elements in a language, esp. in loanwords taken from a language in which certain phonemic distinctions do not correspond to those in the receiving language. Cf. differentiation 1 b.
