† ˈgoldeney Obs. Also 6–7 goldn(e)y, gold(e)nie, golden-eye. [? f. golden a. + -y4; cf. blacky, brownie1, etc. The form golden-eye is prob. due to a misunderstanding.] The name of some fish, perhaps the golden wrasse, but commonly used (like gilt-head) to render L. aurata or scarus.
