† gnide, v. Obs. Forms: 1 gnídan, 3 gnide(n, gnyde. pa. tense, sing. 3 gnade; pl. 1 gnidon, 3 gniden; also 4 (weak) gnidded. [OE. gnídan (gnád, gnidon, gniden) = OHG. gnítan, knítan, OSw. gnidha (Sw. gnida, Da. gnide); also ON. gniða (wk. verb).] trans. To rub with or between the hands; to bruise, crush; to rub out. Also intr. to crumble away. (Cf. gnodde v.)
