proctotrupid, a. and n. Ent.|prɒktəʊˈtruːpɪd| Also Procto-, -trypid. [f. mod.L. family name Proctotrupidæ, f. generic name Proctotrupes (P. A. Latreille Précis des Caractères génériques des Insectes (1796) 108), f. procto- + Gr. τρυπ-ᾶν to bore: see -id3.] A. adj. Of, pertaining to, or designating a proctotrupid. B. n. A small wasp belonging to the family Proctotrupidæ or the superfamily Proctotrupoidea, which include parasitoids of insects and spiders.
