a. The influence of geography on the political character of states, their history, institutions, and esp. relations with other states; also, the study of this influence.
b. A pseudo-science developed in National-Socialist Germany, which regarded the state as an organism with ‘powers of action independent of and superior to the human groups or individuals who constitute it’ (Encycl. Brit., 1957).
