gaugino, n. Particle Physics. Brit. |geɪˈdʒiːnəʊ|, U.S. |geɪˈdʒinoʊ| [‹ gauge n. + -ino suffix.] A hypothetical particle which is the supersymmetric fermion counterpart of a gauge boson, with a spin of ½ instead of 1.
1982A. Salam in Philos. Trans. (Royal Soc.) (A.) 304144 One may deduce..the Lagrangian for a Higgs (spin-zero) field from a Lagrangian for spin-½ quarks. Likewise, gauge bosons (spin 1) and gravitons (spin 2) would be accompanied by and interact with gauge fermions (gauginos) and spin-3/2 gravitons, respectively, in a supersymmetric theory. 1983Nucl. Physics (B.) 22433 We shall consider effects associated with the types of new particles:..(ii) fermionic superpartners of the SU(2)L{earth}U(1) vector bosons and of the Higgs bosons (gauginos and higgsinos). 1989P. D. B. Collins et al. Particle Physics & Cosmol. x. 243 Gauge bosons are partnered by spin-½ gauginos, and these cannot be identified with any of the quarks and leptons. So the latter have to be partnered by new spin-0 squarks and sleptons. 2001Physics Lett. (B.) 50022 Searches for pair production of gauginos and squarks in e+e- collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV have been performed. |
