‖ troparion|trəʊˈpærɪɒn, -ˈɛərɪɒn| Pl. -ia. [a. Gr. τροπάριον, dim. of τρόπος trope n. (sense 5).] In the Greek Church: A short hymn, or a stanza of a hymn; also, = troper.
1850Neale Hist. Eastern Ch. I. 832 note b, A Canon, in the usual services, consists of nine odes; each ode is divided into an uncertain number of troparia, generally three, four, or five.
