A formative analogous to trichloro-, expressing the substitution of 3 atoms of fluorine for hydrogen, as in trifluoromethane or fluoroform, CHF3, from methane, CH4; so trifluorethylene, CF2:CHF, from ethylene, CH2:CH2.
