trierarch Gr. Hist.|ˈtraɪərɑːk| Also 7 -arck, 9 -arc. [ad. L. triērarch-us, or its Gr. source τριήραρχος, -άρχης, f. τριήρης trireme + -αρχος ruling, ruler. Cf. F. triérarque (Oresme, 14th c.).] a. The commander of a trireme. b. A citizen who, singly or in conjunction with others, was charged with the duty of fitting out a trireme or galley for the public service.
