trichophyte|ˈtrɪkəfaɪt| Chiefly in mod.L. form triˈchophyton. [f. Gr. θρίξ, τριχ- hair + ϕυτόν plant.] A genus of minute fungi, parasitic on the skin; esp. the species Trichophyton tonsurans, which produces ringworm.
