The F. word is app. a transferred use of the earlier fraise mesentery of a calf; for a similar development of meaning see chitterling; cf. also frill n.1]
1. A ruff such as was worn in the 16th century.

A tool used for enlarging a circular hole; also, in Watchmaking, for cutting teeth in a wheel.
