1858L. A. A. de Verteuil Trinidad vii. 262 The cacao forastero is hardier, more robust, and yields more abundantly. 1908,1929[see criollo]. 1953E. M. Chatt Cocoa ii. 16 Criollo means ‘native’ and Forastero ‘foreign’. The contradistinction arose in Venezuela after the introduction of cacao trees from the West Indies, when the terms were used to denote the local and imported kinds of cacao. |
