A hemispherical pedestalled bowl with a lid of similar shape, used as a container for food.
1899S. W. Bushell Oriental Ceramic Art xvii. 491 The twelve bowls (pien) on the right being made of closely woven slips of bamboo, lacquered yellow, the twelve (tou) on the left of carved wood, gilded. 1909B.
