‖ Totenkopf|ˈtotənkɔpf| [Ger., = ‘death's head’.] Used attrib. and absol. to designate (a member of) one of the divisions of the SS in Nazi Germany, having a death's head as its badge; spec. in the war of 1939–45, designating a unit (Verband) of concentration-camp guards.
