[OE. fíftigoða:—earlier *fíftigunþa, corresponding to ON. fimmtugánde (Sw., Norw. femtiande, Da. femtiende), f. fifty on the analogy of tenth. In the other Teut. langs. the ordinal suffix is different: OFris. fîftichsta (Du. vijftigste), OHG. fimfzugôsto (MHG. vünfzegeste, mod.Ger. fünfzigste.] The ordinal numeral belonging to the cardinal fifty. fiftieth part: one of fifty equal parts into which a quantity may be divided.
