1. a. The process of becoming fibrillated; the state or condition of being fibrillated; an arrangement into fibrils; also concr. a fibrillated mass.

b. A quivering movement in the fibrils of a muscle or nerve, esp. the muscles of the heart.

2. The process of splitting into fibrils or thin filaments; esp. in Paper-making, the beating of vegetable fibres so that they are (partially) separated into their component fibrils.
