‖ Tishri, Tisri|ˈtɪʃriː|, |ˈtɪzriː| [ad. late Heb. tishrī, f. Aramaic sh⊇rā to begin.] The Babylonian name of the first month of the Jewish civil year, or the seventh of the ecclesiastical, corresponding to parts of September and October: substituted after the captivity for the earlier name Ethanim.
