fathogram|ˈfæðəʊgræm| [f. Fathometer + -gram.] A tracing, made by an echo-sounder, representing the varying depth of water beneath a moving vessel.
1950Internat. Hydrogr. Rev. XXVII. 56 If both vessels operate their echo sounders..the depth record may be almost impossible to interpret. Diagonal streaks across the fathogram are an indication of interference. 1953J. Y. Cousteau Silent World xii. 124 My mind leaped back to the recording of the deep scattering layer. The coincidence of the whale's lunch and the lines drawn on the fathogram may have been entirely fortuitous. 1966Shepard & Dill Submarine Canyons ii. 19 The inverted V that often appears on a fathogram below the crossing of the canyon profile may indicate the true depth of the canyon floor. |
