thylakoid Bot.|ˈθaɪləkɔɪd| [a. G. thylakoid (W. Menke 1961, in Zeitschr. f. Naturforsch. B. XVI. 335/1), f. Gr. θυλακοειδ-ής pouch-like, f. θύλακ-ος pouch: see -oid.] Each of the flattened, fluid-filled, membranous sacs inside a chloroplast in which photochemical reactions take place.
