FAQ, n. Chiefly Computing. Brit. |ɛfeɪˈkjuː|, |fæk|, U.S. |ˌɛfeɪˈkju|, |fæk| [Acronym ‹ the initial letters of f requently asked questions. Attributed to Eugene N. Miya, researcher at NASA, who is said to have coined the term c 1983 in documents circulated to Usenet groups on the history of the space programme.] A list of questions and answers (originally those provided by Usenet newsgroups and later also by Internet web sites and software packages) which contains information expected to be helpful to users; a question and answer on such a list (usu. in pl.). Also: a text file containing such a list. In extended use: any similar list of questions and answers. Freq. attrib.
