1. In comb. with ns.a. (from branch I of the n. or vb.) throw-crank, a crank which converts rotary into reciprocating motion; throw-disk (Cent. Dict., Suppl.), throw-lever, a disk-crank or a lever having a specified or adjustable throw (sense 2); throw-lathe, a lathe driven by hand; thraw-mouse (Sc. dial.), the shrew-mouse: see quot.; throw-wheel, the driving-wheel of a throw or lathe.
b. (from branch II of vb.) throw-bait, bait thrown to attract fish to a place; throw cushion N. Amer. = scatter cushion s.v. scatter v. 7 b; throw-line, a fishing-line thrown out by hand, a hand-line; throw-net, a fishing net cast out by hand; throw pillow = throw cushion above; throw weight (see quot. 19821).
