‖ excipulum Bot.|ɛkˈsɪpjʊləm| [L. excipulum a receptacle, found only in pl., f. excipĕre: see excipient.] A layer of cells lying beneath and partially enclosing, as a cup, the apothecium (q.v.) in lichens.
