† excanˈtation Obs. rare.|ɛkskænˈteɪʃən| [ad. L. *excantātiōn-em, n. of action f. excantāre to bring out by enchantment, f. ex- out + cantāre to sing.] The action of removing (anything) by enchantment. Johnson 1755 explains the word as ‘disenchantment by a countercharm’, which may perh. be the sense in quot. 1580.
