tewfikose Chem.|ˈtjuːfɪkəʊs| [f. the name of Mohammed Tewfik Pasha (Khedive of Egypt 1879–92) + -ose2.] A peculiar sugar found (1890–1) in the milk of the buffalo of the East, Bubalus Buffelus, taking the place of the ordinary milk sugar. It yields glucose when hydrolysed.
