[f. L. adscīt- (ascīt-) ppl. stem of adscīsc-ĕre to admit, accept, or receive from others (f. ad to + scīsc-ĕre to acknowledge, approve by vote, inceptive of scī-re to know) + -itious, as if f. L. *adscīt-īcius.]
