testudineous, a.|tɛstjuːˈdɪniːəs| [f. L. testūdine-us, f. testudo, testūdin-em: see -eous.] 1. Resembling the shell of a tortoise, or a testudo.
1656Blount Glossogr., Testudineous,..belonging to, or bowing like the shell of a tortoise, vaulted. Also pertaining to that ancient war-engine called Testudo. Hence in Bailey, Johnson, and later Dicts. 2. Slow, dilatory, like the pace of a tortoise.
