[f. L. tessellāt-us or It. tessellato in same sense, with Eng. suffix. Used earlier than tessellate v., of which it subseq. became the pa. pple.]
1. Composed of small blocks of variously coloured material arranged to form a pattern; formed of or ornamented with mosaic work.
