priviligentsia, n. Pol.|ˌprɪvɪlɪˈdʒɛntsɪə| Also privilegentsia. [Blend of privilege n. and intelligentsia n.] In Communist states, a class of intellectuals and party bureaucrats enjoying certain social and economic privileges over ordinary citizens (see *nomenklatura n.); hence more widely, a class of any society regarded as enjoying or promoting privileged status.
