taxane, n. Chem. Brit. |ˈtakseɪn|, U.S. |ˈtækˌseɪn| [‹ scientific Latin Taxus, genus name (> adj.) + -ane suffix.] Any of a class of tricyclic terpenoid compounds isolated from certain trees and shrubs of the genus Taxus (the yews), or prepared synthetically; (also) a hydrocarbon having the C20 molecular skeleton present in these compounds.
