tarbet Sc. local.|ˈtɑːbət| Also tarburt. [ad. Gael. tairbeart peninsula, isthmus.] A neck of land, an isthmus; hence, a portage between two lochs or navigable channels. (Also, a proper name of villages, etc. so situated.)
