tap-hose Now dial.|ˈtæphəʊz| Also 7 tapwaze, 8 -owze, 9 -ooze, -wees. [f. tap n.1 The precise sense in which hose is used in the second element is not clear; in later use it has been associated with other words, esp. ooze, wase, bundle of straw.] A strainer placed over the tap-hole in a mash-tub or the like, to prevent any solid matter from passing into or through the tap.
