Encratite|ˈɛnkrətaɪt| Chiefly in pl. [ad. late L. encratīta, late Gr. ἐγκρατῑ́της (Hippolytus), f. ἐγκρατ-ής continent + -ῑτης: see -ite.] One of those early Christian heretics (chiefly Gnostic) that abstained from flesh, from wine, and from marriage. Also attrib.
