Duroc, n. Agric. (chiefly U.S.).|ˈdjuːrɒk| Also duroc. [The name of Géraud Duroc (1772–1813), French general, given to a stallion belonging to Isaac Frink, sheriff of Saratoga County, N.Y. Frink is popularly believed to have bought the horse on the same day (in 1823) as the pigs from which he developed the breed.] Orig., (a pig of) a breed developed in New York State. Now, a breed derived from the crossing of this breed with the Jersey Red; a pig of this breed, usually red in colour and reared for lard; also called Duroc–Jersey. Also Duroc pig.
