ˈsweet ˈpea a. The common name of Lathyrus odoratus, a climbing annual leguminous plant, indigenous to Sicily, cultivated in numerous varieties for its showy variously-coloured sweet-scented flowers; formerly called sweet-scented pea (see sweet-scented b).
