‖ Svetambara, n.|ʃwɛˈtʌmbərə| Also Swetambar, -ber |-bə(r)|, Swetambara. [Skr. Śvetāmbara, lit. ‘white-clad’, as both monks and nuns of the sect wear white robes.] One of the two principal sects of Jainism, whose ascetic practices are less extreme than those of the Digambaras. Also, an adherent of this sect. Freq. attrib.
