double-dye, v. [f. double adv. + dye v.] trans. To dye twice; fig. to imbue or stain deeply.

Meredith Egoist xxxv, He is a sort of man to double-dye himself in guilt by way of vengeance. Hence double-dyed ppl. a., dyed twice; fig. deeply imbued or stained (with guilt, etc.); double-dyeing n., a method of dyeing mixed woollen and cotton fabrics by which the two are dyed separately.
