doggerel, doggrel, a. and n.|ˈdɒgərəl, ˈdɒgrəl| Also 4 dogerel, 5–7 -ell, 6–7 doggerell, doggrell, 6–9 dogrell, 7–8 doggril, 8 dogrel. [Origin unknown; but cf. dog n.1 19 e.] A. adj. An epithet applied to comic or burlesque verse, usually of irregular rhythm; or to mean, trivial, or undignified verse.
