dipterocarp Bot.|ˈdɪptərəʊkɑːp| [ad. mod.L. Dipterocarp-us, f. Gr. δίπτερ-ος two-winged + καρπός fruit.] A member of the genus Dipterocarpus or family Dipterocarpeæ, comprising East Indian trees characterized by two wings on the summit of the fruit, formed by enlargement of two of the calyx-lobes. Cf. dipteraceous. So dipteroˈcarpous a., belonging to this genus or family.
