Dippel's oil [f. The name of the discoverer J. C. Dippel (1672–1734), German alchemist.] Bone oil. In full Dippel's animal oil.

Chem. vii. 429 When horn, hoofs, or bones, are distilled per se, a quantity of solid carbonate of ammonia, and of the same substance combined with empyreumatic oil,..are obtained; hence the pharmaceutical preparations called spirit and salt of hartshorn, and Dippel's animal oil. 1904in Goodchild & Tweney Technol. & Sci. Chem. Nitrogen (ed. 3) xxi. 619 Pyrrole..was first isolated in a pure condition by Anderson in 1858 who obtained it from a product of distillation of bone, bone oil or Dippel's oil. |
