A sexual organism that is diploid at all stages of its life other than the gamete, which is haploid.

Wilson Cell (ed. 3) vi. 492 From this organism [the haplont] arise the gametes..and by their union is produced the zygote from which arises a diploid, asexual spore-producing diplont (in plants the sporophyte), thus completing the life-cycle. 1943L.
