Gr. ἀκιδ-, ἀκίς pointed object + mod.L. anthēra anther, in allusion to the cuspate anthers.] A flowering plant of the genus of this name (family Iridaceæ), which comprises tender herbaceous perennials having corms and native to tropical and southern Africa.
