Porter et al. in Antibiotics & Chemotherapy II. 409 A new species of actinomycete, Streptomyces albo-niger, was obtained which was capable of producing a hitherto undescribed antibiotic, possessing..activity against certain bacteria..Trypanosoma as well. Because the antibiotic is devoid of pigment in the crystalline state, it has been given the name Achromycin. b. (Properly with capital initial.) A proprietary name for the antibiotic tetracycline.
