Strombolian, a.|strɒmˈbəʊlɪən| Also strombolian. [f. the name Stromboli, one of the Lipari Islands + -an.] Of, pertaining to or characteristic of Stromboli, its volcano or volcanic eruptions. Hence applied to (the stage of) a volcanic eruption in which there are repeated or continuous explosions of moderate force with the ejection of gases and bombs of lava.
