Achimenes, n.|əˈkɪməniːz| [mod.L. (P. Browne: see below), f. Gr. ἀχαιµενίς, the name of some plant.] A genus of herbaceous perennials of the family Gesneriaceae, native to Central America but cultivated elsewhere (freq. as hybrids) for their tubular or trumpet-shaped flowers; (also achimenes) a plant of this genus.
